In part one we discussed Fill Power and described the difference between the lower fill power of 400 and a fill mixture of 80/20 Down and feather compared to our high Fill Power down which is 96.3% Down and 3.7% feather.

Our fill is lighter, softer and more ethical as the birds are kept for breeding and their down and generally live to an old age. Geese moult once a year but live for 20 years or more so they keep delivering a very valuable crop of down for many years which is why farmers keep them for a long time.

Domesticated Geese - Heavier, more upright and they do not fly.

Wild Geese
Wild Geese - Roughly half the size, less upright stance and great frequent fliers

Waterproof / Hydrophobic Down.We are not 100% sold on the idea of spraying down with a stiffening DWR treatment and our experience of waterproof down in the past leaves us unconvinced.

High Fill Power Down of High quality is naturally very hydrophobic. For more resistance to moisture our Pure and Dry bags use a waterproof outer shell to protect the down from moisture found in tents and snow holes. For more information on this and other points mail sales@tundrasleepingbags.com
